Now raising Heritage Bourbon Reds!
Duerksen Turkey Farm will be raising Heritage Bourbon Reds this summer. They will be ready for processing in time for Thanksgiving, 2011.
Heritage turkeys are naturally tender. Named for Bourbon County, Kentucky, the Bourbon Red’s meat is lean without the taste of game. They have ample dark and light meat with a heavy breast. Its meat is richly flavored. In the early 1900′s, the Bourbon Red was an important commercial variety, but lost its popularity to other varieties. Now, consumers have re-discovered its superior flavor, and thousands of Americans are enjoying the Bourbon Red variety.

GMO FREE!
Coming this summer (2011), our turkey’s feed products will be GMO-free!
Genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) in foods concern a number of people who are health-conscious and worried about the impact they may have on their health. The harmful nature of GMOs has been questioned, especially by commercial agriculture producers and seed providers. No scientific evidence has been found to suggest that genetic modification of crops is harmful to humans. Some consumers feel it is important to be able to make conscious choices about what they eat. In continuing the tradition of healthy poultry choices, Duerksen Turkey Farm will now be feeding only GMO-free grains to our turkeys!
